While quite a few of the old-time landmark banks in northern Brooklyn are well documented (for example, the Dime Savings Bank in Downtown Brooklyn and the Williamsburgh Savings Bank in Williamsburg), southern Brooklyn has its own architectural gems that are largely ignored. This is a showcase of some of those savings banks built in in the first half of the 20th century.
You will notice that most of the banks built before 1930 are of neoclassical architecture, while most of the banks built in 1930 or later were designed in the Art Deco style. The banks are listed based on the original financial institution that built them. Most of the information comes from archives of the old Brooklyn Daily Eagle newspaper.
